employment agreements and policies

Employment agreements and policies can be powerful tools for an employer. The best opportunity to define the employment relationship and employee obligations is at the time of the employee's hire. An effective employment agreement can assist both parties in understanding the expectations of the position and what terms will govern the employment relationship. In addition, an enforceable employment agreement can help protect the employer from wrongful dismissal claims and protect the employer's business interests following the termination of the employment relationship.

Similarly, employment policies can assist workplace parties in understanding the day-to-day rules that are in place and help protect against claims of unfair treatment. An effective policy manual can assist employers in managing their vacation accruals, disability leaves, performance management process and many other challenging aspects of the employment relationship.

Our lawyers are regularly called upon to assist in drafting employment agreements and workplace policies that are customized to the employer's workplace. We help employers respond to changes in legislation and in the business environment by reviewing an employer's policies and ensuring that the employer is compliant with applicable laws while meeting the employer's business needs.
