banking and financial institution regulation

Our Financial Institutions Regulatory Group advises Canadian and foreign banks, trust companies, insurance companies, securities dealers and advisers, and other financial services organizations engaged or proposing to become engaged in financial services or other activities in Canada. We advise on financial services legislation and assist clients in their dealings with regulatory authorities, including the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions and provincial securities commissions. A significant portion of our activities focuses on assisting clients in obtaining necessary regulatory approvals or exemption orders in connection with their activities in Canada. We have helped a number of foreign banks establish foreign bank subsidiaries or foreign branches in Canada. We take a proactive approach in advising clients with respect to changes to financial institution legislation and the possible opportunities afforded by these changes.
