Professional Experience
Valerie is an associate in both the Financial Services and Projects Groups at McMillan. She is developing a practice with a focus on project finance and public-private partnerships, secured transactions, asset-based lending and acquisition financing. While articling with the firm she participated in a secondment to the Royal Bank of Canada where she gained valuable experience in various aspects of domestic and international securities law.
Valerie summered with the firm in 2006 and then returned as an articling student in 2007.
Valerie has been involved with closing several major infrastructure projects in Canada. She has also been involved with advising both proponents and financial institutions at all stages of the procurement process on a number of major infrastructure projects in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada.

- New Oakville Hospital Project - counsel to the equity sponsors in connection with the design, build, finance and maintain of a new hospital facility in Oakville, Ontario
- St. Thomas Consolidated Courthouse Project - counsel to the equity sponsors in connection with approximately $328 million project involving a new consolidated courthouse facility in St. Thomas, Ontario
- St. Joseph's Regional Mental Health Care Project – a $830.5 million project to design, build, finance and maintain two new mental health care facilities in London and St. Thomas, Ontario
- Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene – a $474 million project to design, build, finance and maintain a new, state-of-the-art forensic mental health facility in Penetanguishene, Ontario
- Waterloo Region Consolidated Courthouse - counsel to the equity sponsors in connection with an approximately $379 million project involving a new consolidated courthouse facility in Kitchener, Ontario
- Toronto South Detention Centre - counsel to the equity sponsors in connection with an approximately $593 million project involving a new detention centre facility in Toronto, Ontario
- Woodstock General Hospital – a $685 million project involving a new hospital in Woodstock, Ontario
