Professional Activities
Stephanie White is an associate in the Commercial Litigation and Family Law Groups in the firm's Ottawa office. Stephanie's practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation and family law matters.
As an articling student with the firm, Stephanie gained experience drafting pleadings, briefs, motion and appeal materials for the Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court. She has assisted lawyers during mediations, discoveries, and settlement conferences and has represented clients before the Small Claims Court. Stephanie has also engaged in research on a variety of topics including child and spousal support entitlement, interjurisdictional support orders, minority and marketability discounts on shareholdings, the oppression remedy, and educational malpractice.
Stephanie continues to assist with contract review and research on a large competition law matter. As a student for In-house Counsel at a large international software company, Stephanie conducted extensive research, drafted legal memoranda, assisted with negotiations of outsourcing deals, and analyzed contracts during her rotations in the department's corporate/commercial, intellectual property and general practice groups.
Stephanie is very active as a student and in the community in general. In her capacity as a member of Pro Bono Students Canada for the Family Law Project in downtown Toronto, Stephanie assisted Duty Counsel in drafting support, custody and access claims on behalf of clients and developed a sensitivity for the complexity of the emotional and financial issues facing her clients.
In addition, she was a Student Caucus Representative for the Student's Law Society and worked closely with students and faculty on a variety of academic matters, co-ordinated the University of Toronto Law Games Team, and organized Law Ball. She also held several integral roles on the Queen's University Alma Mater Society and was a volunteer secondary school teacher with Cross Cultural Solutions in Tanzania.
