Professional Experience
Andrew Stead is a Partner in the Litigation and Business Law practice groups of McMillan's Calgary office. His practice focuses on commercial dispute resolution and commercial and product liability defenses involving energy (oil and gas), automotive and construction companies.
He has appeared before administrative and regulatory tribunals as well as all levels of court in Alberta. He also represents clients before all levels of court in Ontario as well as the Saskatchewan Court of Queens's Bench.
Representative experience includes:
- Defending the enforceability of oil and gas industry notices, notably the ROFR (right of first refusal) and Challenge Notices that have significant business implications for buyers of oil and gas assets
- Numerous construction disputes, often involving Builders' Liens
- Disputes between oilfield service providers and facility owners
- Disputes over the validity of leases and caveats on title that protect the lessee's interest
- Unfair competition disputes
- Employer side employment law and Human Resources complaints
- Breach of commercial lease disputes
- Defending liability claims from defective parts and warranty breaches to commercial lease disputes
Andrew is also a leading member of the firm's Pro Bono program and is an active volunteer at the Calgary Legal Guidance Clinic.
